The rule

English uses a different word when the person is on the RECEIVING end of the verb. I help him — he helps me. The pairs are I/me, he/him, she/her, we/us, they/them; you and it never change. The same word is used after a preposition: with me, for her, to them.

Pattern

I → me · he → him · she → her · we → us · they → them

Examples

  1. Can you help me, please?

  2. Please call me tomorrow.

  3. Give me a minute, please.

  4. Can you send me the address?

Common mistakes

  • Wrong: Can you help I?

    Right: Can you help me?

    After the verb, I becomes me.

  • Wrong: Come with I

    Right: Come with me

    After a preposition too: with me, not with I.
