What you do every day
The rule
For habits and facts English uses the plain verb: I work, we live, they eat. There is one change and only one — after he, she and it the verb takes -s: he works, she lives, it costs. Nothing else in the sentence moves. Learning that single -s is most of English present tense.
I / you / we / they work · he / she / it works
Examples
I work in a hospital.
She works at night.
We live near the station.
The shop closes at six.
Common mistakes
-
Wrong: She work in a shop.
Right: She works in a shop.
he, she and it always add -s in the present.
-
Wrong: I works every day.
Right: I work every day.
Only he, she and it take the -s. I and you never do.
