The rule

A yes/no question needs no extra word: move the verb to first place and you are done. Sie haben Zeit. → Haben Sie Zeit? German has nothing like the English "do".

Pattern

Sie haben Zeit. → Haben Sie Zeit?

Examples

  1. Haben Sie einen Termin?

    Do you have an appointment?

  2. Sprechen Sie Englisch?

    Do you speak English?

  3. Kann ich mit Karte zahlen?

    Can I pay by card?

  4. Ist die Apotheke noch offen?

Keep in mind

  • Wo wohnen Sie? · Wohnen Sie hier?

With a question word the verb is second; without one it is first.
