القاعدة

علّم A2 الجملة التي تحدد أيّهما: ‏the man who lives next door. ويضيف B1 كلمتين موصولتين وقاعدة ترقيم. فـ whose تدل على الملكية: ‏the woman whose car was stolen، وwhere تشير إلى مكان: ‏the town where I grew up. أما الجملة بين فاصلتين فتضيف معلومة إضافية عن شيء معروف أصلًا: ‏My brother, who lives in Rotterdam, is a nurse — أي إن لي أخًا واحدًا. وبلا الفاصلتين يصبح المعنى الأخ الذي يسكن هناك تحديدًا. ولا تستخدم جملة الفاصلتين that أبدًا.

That is the woman whose car was towed away.
تلك هي المرأة التي سُحبت سيارتها.
This is the street where I grew up.
هذا هو الشارع الذي نشأت فيه.
My sister, who is a teacher, lives in Antwerp.
أختي، وهي معلّمة، تعيش في أنتويرب.
The flat, which we saw yesterday, is already taken.
الشقة التي رأيناها أمس قد حُجزت.

أخطاء شائعة

خطأ: The man which car is outside is waiting.

صحيح: The man whose car is outside is waiting.

الملكية تأخذ whose للعاقل وغيره.
خطأ: This is the hospital that I was born.

صحيح: This is the hospital where I was born.

المكان بلا حرف جر يأخذ where.
خطأ: My mother, that lives in Cairo, is visiting.

صحيح: My mother, who lives in Cairo, is visiting.

لا تُستخدم that في جملة بين فاصلتين.
