The rule

Use will for something you decide as you speak, for an offer, and for a promise: I will call you tomorrow. I will help you with that. It is not the same as going to, which is a plan you already had. will is followed by the plain verb, and the short negative is will not.

Pattern

will + plain verb · will not + plain verb · Will you …?

Examples

  1. I will call you when I get home.

  2. I will help you with those bags.

  3. She will not be back before six.

  4. Will you send me the details?

Common mistakes

  • Wrong: I will to call you.

    Right: I will call you.

    will is never followed by to.

  • Wrong: She will calls tomorrow.

    Right: She will call tomorrow.

    will takes the plain verb, with no -s.
