De regel

Veel Engelse zelfstandige naamwoorden zijn in de ene betekenis ontelbaar en in de andere telbaar: paper (papier) / a paper (krant, artikel); experience (ervaring als kennis) / an experience (één belevenis); business / a business (een bedrijf). Porties en soorten worden telbaar (two coffees). Met een bijvoeglijk naamwoord: a good knowledge of, a warm welcome. advice, information, furniture, equipment, luggage, research, news blijven ontelbaar: a piece of advice.
