القاعدة

’s شائعة مع الأشخاص والحيوانات والمؤسسات والأماكن والزمن (the company’s profits وa week’s holiday). وof معتادة مع الأشياء والمجردات (the end of the film) ومع المالك الطويل. والإضافة المزدوجة a friend of mine = أحد أصدقائي. وTom and Anna’s house بيت مشترك، وmy mother’s and my father’s cars سيارتان منفصلتان. وten minutes’ walk أو a ten-minute walk والاسم مفرد في الصفة المركبة. وat the dentist’s = عند طبيب الأسنان.

أخطاء شائعة

  • خطأ: She is a friend of me.

    صحيح: She is a friend of mine.

    الإضافة المزدوجة تستخدم ضمير الملكية: of mine.

  • خطأ: We had a two-hours meeting.

    صحيح: We had a two-hour meeting.

    في الصفة المركبة يبقى الاسم مفردًا.

  • خطأ: The house’s roof is leaking.

    صحيح: The roof of the house is leaking.

    لأجزاء الأشياء تبدو of أكثر طبيعية.
