por and para

The rule

The full contrast is a later problem. At A1 four uses cover most of what you need. para = PURPOSE ("what for"): es para la alergia; and RECIPIENT: esto es para usted. por = REASON ("because of"): llegué tarde por el atasco; and MOVEMENT THROUGH a place: paseamos por el parque. Two frozen expressions are worth learning whole: por favor and por la mañana / por la tarde.

    I arrived late because of the traffic jam.

  3. Paseamos por el parque todos los domingos.

  • Es para ti. / Gracias por todo.

    The recipient takes para; the reason takes por.
