Reflexives with a dative: ich wasche mir die Hände
Reflexivpronomen im Dativ
The rule
A1 taught ich wasche mich. When the sentence already has another object — the thing you wash, put on or imagine — the reflexive pronoun moves to the DATIVE: Ich wasche mir die Hände. Ich ziehe mir eine Jacke an. Ich kann mir das nicht vorstellen. Only ich and du change: mir, dir. The others stay as they are: sich, uns, euch. Body parts take die, not meine: Ich putze mir die Zähne.
ich wasche mich · ich wasche mir die Hände · mir · dir · sich · uns · euch · sich
