(으)로

The rule

(으)로 says by what means and in which direction: 버스로 가요, 카드로 계산할게요, 오른쪽으로 가세요. It is 로 after a vowel, 으로 after a consonant — with one exception that matters, because a ㄹ already sounds like the 로: 지하철로, not 지하철으로.

명사 + (으)로 · 받침 ㄹ + 로

Examples

  1. 버스로 가요.

    I go by bus.

  2. 카드로 계산할게요.

    I will pay by card.

  3. 오른쪽으로 가세요.

    Turn right.

    ㄹ → 로, not 으로
