The rule

The person something is done TO or FOR: me, te, le, nos, les. Unlike the direct object, le does not change for gender — it is le for both him and her. Spanish very often says the pronoun AND the person: le he dicho a mi jefe que no puedo. That is not redundant; it is how the language works.

Pattern

me / te / le / nos / les + verbo

Examples

    I have told my boss I cannot.

  2. ¿Me puede dar el tique?

    Could you give me the receipt?

  3. Les hemos mandado la factura.

    We have sent them the invoice.

Keep in mind

  • Le doy el libro.

    le is the person; the book is the direct object.
