The rule

A0 taught me gusta. A whole family works the same way, and once you see the shape you get them all free: encantar (to love), doler (to hurt), apetecer (to fancy), parecer (to seem), interesar (to interest), quedar (to suit, to be left). The thing is the SUBJECT, so the verb agrees with IT, not with you: me duele la cabeza but me duelen los pies. To say who, put a + person in front: a mí me encanta, a mis padres les gusta.

Pattern

(a mí) me / (a ti) te / (a él) le + gusta / gustan

Examples

  1. Me duele la cabeza desde ayer.

    My head has been hurting since yesterday.

  2. ¿Te apetece un café?

    Do you fancy a coffee?

  3. Ese color te queda muy bien.

    That colour really suits you.

Keep in mind

  • Me duele el pie. / Me duelen los pies.

    The verb agrees with the body part, not with me.
