Cause, consequence, and adding: como, por eso, además, sin embargo
The rule
A1 gave you porque, pero and así que. A2 adds four that make a longer text hang together. como at the START of a sentence gives the cause first: como llovía, nos quedamos en casa — porque does not open a sentence like that. por eso gives the consequence: estaba cansado; por eso me acosté pronto. además adds one more point: el piso es barato y, además, tiene terraza. sin embargo is a stronger, more formal pero: el examen era difícil; sin embargo, aprobé.

Como no tenía coche, fui en tren.
As I didn't have a car, I went by train.
Vivo cerca del trabajo; por eso voy andando.
I live near work; that is why I walk.
El hotel era caro; sin embargo, merecía la pena.
The hotel was expensive; however, it was worth it.

Como no vino, me fui. / Me fui porque no vino.
como opens the sentence with the cause; porque comes after the main clause.
