The rule

A Spanish adjective agrees with its noun and comes AFTER it: una casa blanca, not "una blanca casa". An adjective ending in -o has four forms — blanco, blanca, blancos, blancas. One ending in -e or a consonant has only two — grande / grandes, azul / azules. This is the rule that makes gender matter: get the article wrong and the adjective goes wrong too.

  • un buen día

    bueno and grande shorten before a masculine singular noun: un buen día, un gran problema.
