The rule
Spanish plurals are almost regular. A noun ending in a vowel adds -s: la casa → las casas. A noun ending in a consonant adds -es: el señor → los señores. A noun ending in -z changes it to -c and adds -es: la luz → las luces. The article changes too: el → los, la → las, un → unos, una → unas. A written accent on the last syllable disappears in the plural: el jamón → los jamones.

Tengo dos hermanas.
I have two sisters.
Los libros están en la mochila.
The books are in the backpack.
Apaga las luces.

A word already ending in -s with an unstressed last syllable does not change.
