The verb estar

The rule

estar is the "to be" of PLACE and of how something is RIGHT NOW: where a thing is, and how a person feels today. Estoy cansado is true this afternoon; soy cansado would claim tiredness is your character. Note the written accents: estás, está, están — without them they are different words.

  3. La leche está en la nevera.

    The milk is in the fridge.

Keep in mind

  • está / esta

    está with an accent is the verb; esta without one is "this".
