Start, stop, again, just, still: verb chains
The rule
Five verb chains that say WHERE an action is in its life. empezar a + infinitive: it starts (empecé a trabajar a los dieciséis). dejar de + infinitive: it stops (he dejado de fumar). volver a + infinitive: it happens again (vuelve a llover). acabar de + infinitive: it has JUST happened (acabo de llegar). seguir + gerund: it is still going on (sigo viviendo en el mismo piso). The prepositions are fixed — learn each chain as one unit; seguir is the one that takes a gerund and no preposition.
