The gerund for how and while
The rule
Besides estoy trabajando, the gerund can stand on its own after a verb to say HOW something is done: aprendí español viendo series, vino corriendo, se gana la vida dando clases. It also says two things happen at the same time: desayuno escuchando la radio. English often uses "by -ing" or "while -ing"; Spanish uses the bare gerund with no preposition — por viendo and en viendo are wrong. To go somewhere on foot, say ir andando or ir a pie.
verbo + gerundio: aprendí viendo, vino corriendo, voy andando
Examples
Aprendí español viendo series.
I learnt Spanish by watching series.
Voy al trabajo andando.
I walk to work.
Siempre desayuno escuchando la radio.
I always have breakfast listening to the radio.
Keep in mind
Aprendí viendo películas.
Not "por viendo" or "por ver": the gerund alone says how.
