Verbs that change with se: ir / irse
The rule
Some verbs change their meaning when they take a pronoun, and the pair is worth learning together. ir is to go somewhere; irse is to leave: me voy = "I am off". quedar is to arrange to meet (quedamos a las seis, he quedado con Ana); quedarse is to stay (me quedo en casa). dormir is to sleep; dormirse is to fall asleep — or to oversleep. llevar is to carry or wear; llevarse is to take something away (me lo llevo), and llevarse bien is to get on well with someone. acordarse de is to remember. The pronoun follows the person: me, te, se, nos, se.
